august 2019 trip: everything i'm looking forward to

I'm back with yet another 2019 planning post!

Last year, I wrote this post in anticipation for our Thanksgiving trip, where I detailed everything new that I was looking forward to experiencing this year.  8 months have come and gone, and even more new and amazing experiences are waiting for me at Walt Disney World Resort!

Once again, I find myself just one short week away from my next reunion with my happy place.  It's crazy how time flew between our 2018 trip and our 2019 trip!  Last-minute trips to Kohls, Target, and ShopRite have become a daily occurrence, and I'm pretty sure we've quintuple-checked that our MNSSHP tickets and MagicBands are in the right place.  We can't wait for all of the magic to be had and memories to be made this time around, but there are just a few new-to-us experiences that we really want to highlight this summer!

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Out of everything my family is excited for this trip, I don't think they're excited for anything more than MNSSHP!  Those of you who have followed my blog know that I'm a Not-So-Scary expert since 2016.  I went as a guest twice during my Disney College Program, and worked almost every other night of the party-- including a shift on the treat trail!  Halloween is my favorite time of year at Walt Disney World Resort, and MNSSHP is my favorite event that Disney regularly offers.

While the entire party is new to the rest of the family, there are some experiences that will even be new to me this year!  Since last year, MNSSHP offers several ride "overlays."  Space Mountain goes pitch black, the Mad Tea Party gets special lighting effects, and Pirates of the Caribbean now has live actors on the ride!  This year, MNSSHP will also see a brand new fireworks show: Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular!  The Not-So-Spooky Spectacular replaces Happy HalloWishes, which was my favorite fireworks show on property, so my expectations are very high!  The Boo to You! Parade will also see several new floats and characters, including two of my favorites, Edna Mode and the Little Green Men!  You can be sure I will not miss out on the Little Green Men park debut.

Moonlight Magic

We cannot wait to experience our first Disney Vacation Club Member event, Moonlight Magic at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park!  You can read more about MM and how I was able to book tickets here.  Getting to go to an after-hour event at DAK is a dream come true for us!  In our two vacations since Pandora opened, we still haven't seen Pandora at night, so we can't wait to see it all black-lit and neon!  Since the first two events have already passed us, we know which characters we want to meet and rides we want to enjoy.  Kevin will be taking photos with her adoring fans, and we'll be getting rare appearances from Carl Frederickson, Princess Atta, Mowgli, and so many other pals!  We'll be keeping track of how many free Mickey ice cream bars and sandwiches we can stomach.

Storybook Dining with Snow White at Artist Point

We're trying quite a few new dining experiences this summer.  It'll be our first time as a family at Chefs de France, our first time having breakfast at The Wave, and our first time at Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen.  But there's only one dining experience we're really thrilled for, and it's the new Storybook Dining with Snow White dinner at Artist Point!  The menu, which is a rare mix of family-style and individual plating, includes several unique entree options like butternut squash gnocchi and charred pork with clams.  The real star of the show at Storybook Dining is the character interaction!  Snow White, The Evil Queen, Dopey, and Grumpy greet guests during dinner.  You really can't meet Grumpy anywhere, and even The Evil Queen and Dopey are pretty hard to spot!  All in all, this meal is a departure from the typical character dining experiences that Disney offers.  I can't wait to try it!

Why should California have all the fun?  When Pixar Pier opened at Disney's California Adventure last year, I was VERY jealous of everyone who was living it up, meeting Edna Mode, and eating that giant chocolate chip cookie now known as "Jack Jack's Cookie Num Nums."  When Disney announced at the beginning of the year that Hollywood Studios would be getting their own bit of Incredibles-themed fun, I couldn't have been happier!  I'll be sure to take a lot of photos while I appreciate the ambiance of my last ever pre-Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge trip to Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Mickey & Minnie's Surprise Celebration

Last year, my family and I felt so blessed to be able to celebrate Mickey's 90th birthday party in person!  The festivities continued this year with Mickey & Minnie's Surprise Celebration, which I first wrote about back in January.  Back then, we had no set date for when the Celebration would be ending, so for a little while, I basically had to keep my fingers crossed that the party wouldn't end until after our trip date.  It was later revealed that the Celebration would be ongoing until September 30, so I made sure our first FP+ of our first day would include running to Town Square to meet Mickey and Minnie in these adorable 90th celebration outfits!  In addition to a special M&G with the pair in Town Square Theatre, the Move it!  Shake it!  Dance and Play it! parade has been given a special makeover.  The Move it!  Shake it!  MousekeDance it! Street Party includes all of our favorite friends, and we can't wait to party it up in Magic Kingdom this year!

I can't believe the sheer amount of brand new experiences that Walt Disney World Resort has in store for us this summer.  When Disney started the #NowMoreThanEver campaign, they really meant it!  When my family thinks of our Disney trips, we normally think of our time-honored vacation traditions-- the way it feels to see Cinderella's Castle for the first time, or our first ride on Seven Dwarf's Mine Train, or even just driving up to the security booth at our resort and hearing "welcome home" before we check-in.  But this year, Disney has made our vacation extra exciting with all of these brand new offerings, and we can't wait to make brand new memories.

As always: don't forget to follow @tinkerkait on IG and like facebook.com/tinkerkait for play-by-play updates on our upcoming Disney trip!  See you real soon!

cheers,

    1. Hey Gianna! I totally feel you. I didn't know until I went as a guest that a few attractions, like Mickey's Philharmagic and the Enchanted Tiki Room, are converted to Trick or Treat stations during the party! MNSSHP is still one of my favorite hard-ticket event at Disney, but I highly recommend Disney After Hours if you're looking for a nighttime option at Magic Kingdom to get a lot of rides done!
